Protecting Your Jewelry

Every year I like to put out a not-so-subtle reminder about keeping your precious jewelry items protected. If you’ve been waiting, here’s this year’s rendition {wink}.

Your jewelry is a BIG investment. And, it’s more than just a “thing”. It’s a representation of life’s most precious moments. That ring signifies your everlasting love. That necklace, your firstborn. And those earrings, twenty-five years of togetherness. Taking care of your jewelry is more than just maintenance, it’s a guarantee that your memories will live on … for generations to come.

Even if your pieces don’t look broken chances are they could use a tune-up. Makeup, bulky clothing, and our daily life activities tend to wreak havoc on our favorite accessories. This is why I recommend everyone bring their jewelry to Yelton Fine Jewelers at least twice per year so that they can be cleaned, inspected, and repaired if needed.

Here’s a little summary of my full proof protection plan …

  1. Stop in every six months to have your jewelry checked and cleaned.
  2. If needed, leave your items for repair. All repairs are done in-house by our amazing goldsmiths, Lynette and Lesley. They have just under 24.5 years of combined experience and they are the best in Cincinnati! As a bonus, we’re offering 20% off of all repairs through the end of February.
  3. Let our friendly staff member teach you how to properly care for your heirloom pieces so that they are protected all year long.
  4. Buy jewelry cleaner. Not just any jewelry cleaner, but OUR jewelry cleaner!
  5. Make sure that your pieces are properly insured. Bring in an existing appraisal or let us conduct one for you. From there are can discuss your insurance options through Jewelers Mutual, our preferred provider.

If there is one piece of advice that you take from me, let this be it! I want to see that your precious jewelry and the moments they represent continue to twinkle. If you have any questions simply swing by the store, or give us a call! I expect to be seeing you soon.

Trend Alert

So, I know that it’s only a couple of weeks into the New Year, but is anyone else looking forward to spring? Yeah, I said it and I have faith that those warmer temps are just around the corner. Right?!

Even if we do have to wait a bit on the weather I have been looking ahead at the 2019 jewelry forecast and it’s looking pretty bright because YELLOW GOLD IS BACK! So many of you have been asking me when this was going to happen and I’m happy to report that the wait is over. Pull out those pieces that you’ve been keeping on stand by and wear them with pride in 2019!

Another trend that I’m totally on board with is BIG HOOPS. And, please don’t be shy because in 2019 bigger is always better. Whether you prefer rose gold, yellow gold, silver, or platinum … we’ve got you covered.

For those fingers of yours you’re going to want to find some rings with both TEXTURE & COLOR. Funky multi-row rings with colorful gemstones and diamonds {or CZ} are the big trend. Like I said, big is in so opt for something wider than you might normally and also experiment with wearing multiple rings on the same hand. I know we’ve gotten comfortable with conservative modern looks, but now is the time to go bold. Dig deep and let that eighties child shine {again}.

While these are my favorite trends some other things to be on the lookout for in 2019 include cuff bracelets {still going strong}, bar pendants {engraved, or not}, lariat necklaces {the deeper the drop, the better}.

Whenever you feel those winter blues setting in remember that spring 2019 is going to be fun and trendy! I’m just going to keep imaging myself in big ol’ hoops, colorful rings, and a pair of cut offs. That should make winter fly right by {wink}.

Looking Back At 2018

They always say to focus on what’s in front of you instead of looking back. To some extent I get it, but at the close of each year I always appreciate the opportunity to reflect on the previous 365 days. To celebrate the good times, recognize the changes, and the realize the growth.

As I gaze back at 2018 I have to say family was a huge theme. The motto that we’ve been adopting is “work hard, play harder” and as a result we have some amazing new memories together. The highlight was our vacation to Maui which had been a dream for a while. From snorkeling, to whale watching, to hiking Diamondhead we did it all! As the week went on every day seemed to get even better. Not just because of where we were, but because we were all there together.

On the business side of the house Mark and I learned A LOT this year. Even after thirty years in the jewelry industry we’re constantly humbled by how much there is to know and how quickly things progress. One of our major milestones this year was teaming up with a group of 10 other jewelry stores nationwide to implement best practices. The goal … to be the best store in Cincinnati. From revamping our product lines to developing new marketing campaigns we put a lot of energy into Yelton Fine Jewelers this year. We hope that our customers {ahem, you} enjoy what they’ve seen so far!!

In summary, I have to say 2018 was a huge growth period for myself, my family, and the business. I love to see that we’re constantly learning – how to be better parents, how to manage the store more efficiently, how to listen better, how to be good community members, on and on. As we march towards 2019 I’m so grateful to have these experiences to look back upon. They’ll serve as a great foundation for what’s to come.

Happy New Year everyone. Wishing you the best in 2019, and beyond.
